Review of Night and the City (1950) by David S — 22 May 2010
Improves as it progresses. Its first ten minutes are almost disastrously wooden, but eventually Widmark's storyline takes precedence and succeeds in excellent noir fashion. If the subplot with the girlfriend (and in particular, the girlfriend's male friend) never works, it's a relatively small flaw overall.
