Review of Night and the City (1950) by Seth D — 03 Apr 2009
I haven't seen the re-make and I really have very little interest in doing so. This is a miserable film full of dirty rotten bastards (and one very stupid but vulnerable woman played with a luminescence nearly completely missing from today's stars by Ms.
Gene Tierney) all getting what they paid for, what they deserve. From the camera work and photography to the resume-topping performance by Mr. Widmark this is a terrific film that holds up nearly sixty years after the fact.
Highly recommended.
