Review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) by Dom B — 26 Jun 2010
While the romance is kind of cute and some of the supporting cast good, I couldn't help but notice that everyone's anti-establishment taste was extremely bland and prepackaged. In classic subculture fashion, all these hipsters defined themselves by the mainstream pop-culture they pretend to hate.
It makes the whole film ring a bit hollow and 'MTV.' I also couldn't help but notice the resemblance to High Fidelity, but with a younger cast and less diverse soundtrack. Still, it was an OK teen romance.
There have sure been worse. But for a movie where supposedly interesting music is a main theme, it sounded too much like any given college radio station.
