Review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) by Dann M — 09 Sep 2014
A stereotypical romantic comedy, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is entertaining but doesn't aspire to much. The story follows two high school seniors, Nick and Norah, who meet at a club and end up spending the night hunting down the location of a secret underground performance of their favorite indie band.
Michael Cera, Kat Denning, and Alexis Dziena lead the cast and give strong performances; especially Denning, who has a knack for dry, sardonic humor. And the music is fairly good as well, though not as captivating or poignant as the title would suggest.
The writing also has a few issues, as some of the dialog feels a little unnatural and tries too hard to be clever. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is cliched and formulaic, but there's a sweetness about it that shines through.
