Review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) by Jacob D — 02 Jun 2012
Micheal Cera can't help but be likeable. He also can't help but play the same roles over and over. Ragedy loner/guy in a band who gets the cute, charming/doesnt think shes good enough girl. "Nick & Norah" decides that it doesn't want to do this.
By adding an Ex-GF, a lost drunken best friend, and the band being made of charming and likeabl gays, it cofounds expectations and makes it a likeably comedy. By letting Nick and Norah fight through out the film and prodding the fact that Nick can't get his Ex out of his head, it makes you dread the end and final confrontation.
Also by letting Norah's best friend escape what she thinks is an assault-waiting-to-happen when the "assaulters" are just trying to get her home. It also touches on a touchy subject for anyone, whether Norah can have an Orgasm.
"Nick & Norah" takes everything it does seriously, extrememly seriously, which is probably why it earned the rating, "PG-13 for mature thematic material including teen drinking, sexuality, language and crude behavior.
" Ovrall, it doesn't reinvente the rom-com or even the comedy, but it does it well and original enough to make it a definate hit. 4.3/5.
