Review of Newsfront (1978) by Christopher S — 05 Jun 2008
I always thought there could be a fascinating film about newsreel photographers - in Australia or otherwise, but this isn't it. Not nearly enough scenes out in the field, it spends more time on the bland personal lives and office politics of the cameramen and producers.
There are a few compelling moments, but they're spaced out between long stretches of slow-paced, talky melodrama. An interesting style alternating between color and black & white never really plays out to any effect.
