This movie is a film where things happen and there's not really any emotional impact other than to say... hmmm... I guess Robert De Niro's character is a selfish dick. There's almost nothing that happens in this movie building to anything bigger than that.
That's the film's major problem. There's no substance to the story even though there's good actors, a good director, and good music. Just a boring, long film about nothing more than selfishness.
