Review of New York, I Love You (2008) by Pendeja V — 04 Mar 2011
Sort of a deeper, more surreal and better realized version of those "Love, Actually" type movies. This is a collection of shorts featuring various celebrities, either slumming (Andy Garca, Natalie Portman) or reaching new heights (Shia Lebouf's incredibly sad and moving performance) or just staying crappy (the uggh-worthy Hayden Christensen) while talking about love and giving you an insight into that "New York State of Mind". It doesn't always work, but it's actually pretty interesting all in all. I put it on thinking, there is no way I'll like this, but by the time Orlando Bloom's short hit. I was hooked.
I think that may be what makes movies like this work. Since you really only spend about 10 minutes at a time with any character or storyline it doesn't get the chance to drag on or become stale. Give it a watch.
