Review of Network (1976) by Ld P — 01 Aug 2009
I saw this movie on the big screen in1976. It blew me away. Very Powerful film making. So powerful that to this day I dont watch much TV. I hate commercials and refuse to watch most tv. Even the news big 3 drive me crazy with the ANGERY MEN NEWS and constant commercials.
I mainly watch some pbs (pbs in Okla does not offer a good variety I subscribe.) I watch a lot movies and have audiophile sound system. I saw the future in 1976 when I saw this movie. Trash TV now abounds on every channel.
Peter Finch is so incredible powerful in this Paddy Chayefsky story. This movie has such a controversial anti tv message that I doubt any studio would make it today. This movie holds up to the test of time.
It is just as powerful today as it was 1976. from wiki: Network has continued to receive recognition, decades after its initial release. In 2000, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
In 2002, it was inducted into the Producers Guild of America Hall of Fame as a film that has "set an enduring standard for American entertainment."[1] In 2006, Chayefsky's script was voted one of the top ten movie scripts of all-time by the Writers Guild of America, East.
In 2007, the film was 64th among the Top 100 Greatest American Films as chosen by the American Film Institute, a ranking slightly higher than the one AFI gave it ten years earlier." He's mad as hell and he 's not going to take it any more.
.---this is one screaming screeching movie. I love it. Its long been one of my all time favorites. five stars.
