Review of Network (1976) by Scott R — 03 Feb 2018
A television company is doing everything they can to keep viewers and most importantly trying to get higher rates. An anchorman is slowly going crazy and the ratings rises big time. People should help him but use him to keep on getting even higher numbers.
This is an insane trip, fictional but very real and you feel it's exactly how things where back then, and 40 years later - still is.
Boy, Sidney Lumet known how to make scripts work, with huge help from Paddy Chayefsky as the writer. He has done it before and in this film he surely does it again. This is one of the greatest satirical films ever made.
It's got a great cast and a swell production. The actors deliver big time. Many layers, often intense, even without a score. It's lot's of yelling, plenty of drama, egotrips and preaching of how bad the state of mankind is. Hidden in the backround there are a seriousness. It's the naked truth, put on the edge. So many good points here that it's almost scary, especially when the fact that this stuff is till very relevant today.
After seeing this I wanna see "Internet version" of this film. It could easily be done, but probably never with such a strong power of message.
8 out of 10 million viewers.
