Review of Network (1976) by Jacob K — 07 Apr 2011
My new favorite movie!!! Network is about a disgraced television network that soon exploits it's news anchors sudden mental breakdown for better ratings. It grabs you with it's impeccable dialogue, extensive and grueling overacting, and harsh messages. And the reason all of that works in THIS movie, is because it's making fun of the entire industry of television and movies. People WANT violence, they WANT tragedy, and they WANT characters you'll only see in movies, and Network gives it to you.
It's 30 some odd years old and it holds up now, even more so in today's society. This is one remake they should do, BUT ONLY if it's word for word exactly like the original. It has political, moralistic, and philosophical undertones that are subtle to a normal viewer, but if you're looking for it, it screams at you. The characters are hard and venomous and only exist in this world of Network. Funny part is, in 1976 these types of people weren't real or plausible, today? It's the only type of people left. See it, see it twice!
