Review of Network (1976) by Victor D — 21 Apr 2011
Sydney Lumet's brilliantly told film, Network, revolves around the degrading mentality of newscaster Howard Beale after his announcement of an upcoming publicly broadcasted suicide. Lumet is able to tell a very interesting a story all while focusing on making a statement about the exploitative nature of the media and how easily influenced the average American is by television and all in very darkly satirical manner.
Lumet has created a masterpiece that echoes how the media is still as exploitative of one man's insanity today that will most likely be relevant to the time it came out and for as long as people rely on television and any source of media for a grasp on whats going on the real world, even though they fail to grasp that the only reliable source for real news is themselves.
(*cough* the media lies *cough*).
