Review of Network (1976) by Hardy C — 11 Aug 2011
I wonder how many people who saw this fabulous film remember the monologue of Arthur Jensen (Ned Beatty) when he met with Beale. The things he said were very accurate about the reality of the world and how it really worked, not just the reality of that time in the 70s, but exactly what's going on today (and probably always has been).
That reality explains everything that's happened since then to this country, and why the outlook is so grim. I consider Lumet's prescient script to be an eerily precise harbinger of the "natural order of things," so much so I wonder whether he was a renegade part of this natural order or had some kind of crystal ball.
