Review of Nerve (2016) by Lori V — 05 Aug 2016

Let me preface this by saying if you want entertainment then this movie delivers. It's very entertaining. My biggest problems were the logic here within this movie. The whole time I kept watching this I thought to myself that it must be nice to be a watcher to watch all of these ridiculously good looking people. Well real life isn't like this, as we all know, many people aren't blessed with model or movie star good looks and in today's world if an average or below average looking person tried to play, then not only would the bullying start but my guess is that would open up Pandora's box per say and lead to all sorts of other issues for today's teens and young adults. Bullying seems to be tougher for this generation than in previous ones and with this background they don't portray this enough in the film. Why? Because it's fun to watch really, really good looking people.

The other problem I have with this is the irresponsible nature of the film in the first place. Any adult who may be 30 or over or maybe 40 or over, many of them have worked hard for where they are, sure some have caught lucky breaks, but even so the stereotype with this generation isn't helping things with the ideas in this movie. You want relatively easy money? It's easy just sign into your phone and be a player. You want to be a watcher? Well use your parent's money and watch to your heart's content. The hard work ethic isn't there anymore in this picture. And today's young adults unfortunately become saturated by this message which is Everything is easily attainable including easy money through other people. And these young adults are this film's target audience.

So those were my biggest problems with this. I give it 3 stars because in spite of those problems it's entertaining but I do question how many kids will be easily influenced thinking life can be this easy and for that it is concerning. Whether the film intentionally decided to send that message or not, it's there.
