Review of Nekromantik (1988) by Matt K — 25 Jul 2011
I was very hesitant over watching this flick because I had an idea that it was going to very cruel. I was also hesitant to write a review and publish it because I was possibly gonna get s**t for, but then I figured no one was going to read this and those who will, well pretty much may have already seen this flick.
Nekromantik comes from Germany and is a simple tale. A couple decides to spice up their life when Rob steals a corpse for a threeway with his girlfriend, Betty. Betty falls in love with corpse and runaways with him.
Rob feels crush, so he enacts on revenge. Yes, this is not tasteful flick and is morally corrupt especially with scenes of animal cruelty and death (that's what's up, doc). The flick is pretty much a splatter flick filled over the top blood, guts, and gore.
However, there is something charming about this flick and it may be it is challening. Yes, it is not easy to watch and it is laughable at times, but the director J'Buttgereit may have been on to something.
He uses beautiful piano music and inserts it in some disturbing scenes. It creates this mood that'll make you feel weird. There's also another great scene that may be hinting something when Rob goes into a violent pornographic film where couples are watching the flick.
He sits there, and we watch the people watching a violent porno. Meanwhile, we are watching a violent porno too. Hm... very interesting. I believe the film's purpose does not only serves to grossout people, but to examine the beauty and fascination of death.
It explores if there's anything erotic behind this matter that is no longer living. It could also be a study in necrophilia. This is sparttistic (splatter + art) flick that should be in consideration if you're looking to explore something that'll make you squeamish, sick, disturbed, or laughing at all the cheap gags.
