Review of Needful Things (1993) by Ty A — 26 Sep 2007
I caught this the other night at 2 AM on one of the movie chanels and I was reminded of how great and erie a movie it is... I for one have never read the book but I really like this move and If I may be so bold the "Synopsis" on the page is way off base... It's a negative review disguised as a plot synopsis... Booo on you Jeff Shannon... you suck!
I for one think Max Von Sydow as Satan playing the pupet master over this sleepy coastal town is one of his better preformances in his career and Ed Harris is flawed but strong in a great potrayl of the town sheriff.
An I also love the sly one liners in this movie... Like this exchange.
Letter Jacket Guy- "Jesus?!?!".
Satan- "Oh the young carpenter from nazareth... I knew him well... died badly".
It's little tounge in cheek things like that I love about this movie it has a sence of forboding and menace but never loses it's ability to throw a little levity into the mix.
