Review of Ned Kelly (2003) by Mari J — 07 Mar 2009
A completely generic western ( = western as a film genre) although based on an Australian true story. The pompous music is very annoying the better part of the movie but fortunately it tones down towards the end.
In fact, the whole film gets better towards the end: the story wins you over and at least I got touched by it more and more and interested in the legend itself and the men & circumstances behind it too.
This is by no means Heath Ledger's best performance nor ever have I understood the fuss about Orlando Bloom; the supporting actors are much more interesting except of course Naomi Watts whose part is entirely useless for the story and gets treated accordingly.
WATCHED: March 6, 2009.
