This film offers an unusual and engaging take on the Vampire genre. Instead of the usual epic romance, it presents a small, intimate, and somewhat squalid view. Here we have the vampire as drifter-hoodlum. If there is any romance here, it is the romance of the down-and-out; of the underdog.
Sparse visuals and soundtrack, with mostly muted performances, give the film an effectively eerie atmosphere. Bill Paxton's psychotic performance is somewhat out of place, but in a good way. Joshua John Miller's grates a little.
The film undermines itself with a silly and weakly motivated ending. But genre fans are bound to find things to like about it.
