Review of Nazis at the Center of the Earth (2012) by Melissa N — 27 May 2012
I rented this thinking it was Dead Snow since they both have zombie nazis in it, simple enough mistake. I heard this wasn't even ranked in the top 5 zombie nazi movies. Apparently Dead Snow came in it at 3. Who knew there were so many?!
Since it seems like you have a first time director with a bunch of brand new actors, you have to give it a lot of lee way. Actually once you look at it in that light, the movie becomes surprisingly better, still 1 star, but I've rated better quality movies 0 stars because they didn't get the benefit of a pass.
Jake Busey was the only real actor in the film. He reminded me exactly of his father Gary with a cross of Val Kilmer. Everyone else seemed to scream "I'm acting, can you tell?" Although I'll give an exception to Lilan Bowden who acted well and the nazi side of the cast who did a good job at being as believable as this film allows you to be. The make up and some of the CGI was done well, minus one unforgiving scene or a tractor riding across snow. It was done so horribly it stands out just as much as a sun stands out if you were in the core of the earth where one would expect to see a rock ceiling. However, I never watched Journey to the Center of the Earth and apparently they have a sun there as well.... go figure!
All in all, you take it for what it is and you might be surprised that it's not the worst movie ever made. (Italics on the ever).
