Review of Natural Born Killers (1994) by Sosefo H — 14 Sep 2010
I watched this for the first time in years and I had forgotten just how good it was. Every part is cast perfectly. The music, the editing, the bizarre camera choices all coexist in a uniform masterpiece.
No film captures the 90's mentality better. Now, when you turn on the tv, you see Lady Gaga, Barack Obama, and Justin Bieber. When I grew up the 90's, you saw Kurt Cobain, Lorena Bobbitt, and Rodney King.
Its a satire that sums up the US through a love and glorification of violence and simultaneous fake sympathy and guilt for our love of violence. Deep down our country uses violence as entertainment and markets it as a tool for fear, consumption, and excitement.
This movie encapsulates all of this and also proves to be quite funny, visceral, and hypnotic at the same time.
