Review of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) by Cal ( — 20 Dec 2010
I thought this had a very heartfelt message about how to prioritise family at this time of year, in spite of external problems. The family are always appreciative of Clark's(Chevy Chase) efforts no matter their level of success and the humour of the parents is passed down to the kids, Judd and Audrey.
I like the farce of it all, where everything escalates to much hilarity. Clark's near meltdown with a chainsaw felling a tree is hilarious, while the oblivious aunt and uncle bumble around causing chaos.
A very good film that hits the right note, without being overly cliched.
