Review of Nashville (1975) by Rodney W — 24 Jun 2007
Robert Altman's masterpiece is about many things: the way people gravitate toward fame, the way popular culture feeds on comfortable family values cliches, the way our electoral process is packaged and sold and, more than anything, America's deep sense of denial.
It don't worry me, indeed. But those are just the heavy themes, the ones that settle in after you see it. As a viewing experience, it's a pageant of winners, losers, gamblers, and freaks, all gravitating toward a city which -- for one brief period -- becomes the burning American epicenter of hopes and dreams.
