Review of Nashville (1975) by Jorge G — 27 Feb 2008
"Nashville" is an aimless movie with dull dialogue and an unbelievable slow pace. Worse yet, it has a strong lack of fleshed out characters, most of them portrayed and written in such a condescending, unlikeable way, acting like lifeless zombies and seemingly created for us to look down at.
It's clear the makers of the film have no love for the subject, as well as no understanding of the culture, making the whole movie a mean-spirited affair. At the end of it, I felt like I hadn't gained anything, and had lost 160 valuable minutes.
This was my first Robert Altman and I'm sorry to say I haven't been this disappointed about a movie in a long time. Too bad, because a great epic movie could have been done about Nashville and the Country music industry, instead of this lifeless and boring exercise.
