While having a great scope using many actors and characters the film still manages to keep a distance between itself and the viewer. It shows lots of characters but focuses on none and develops none. It is technically great and Altman always manages to bring a big film together.
The film feels very long and why somewhat based on reality it plays off stereotypes and selected people more than that reality. It means more in that it speaks about the time period and the obsession with politics and entertainment stars than it actually does about the city it is located in.
Ambitious in scope but often ambiguous in characters and story. Lots of free roving is filmed which doesn't make it any easy 2 hr. 40 min. film.
