Review of Nashville (1975) by Clint D — 21 Apr 2012
A true American epic in every sense of the word and pulled off by the ONLY man who could have directed it, Robert Altman. You don't have to like country music to get into the film but the sons are certainly a big part of the film and its outstanding authenticity.
"Nashville" is not easy to describe but it demands a lot from its viewers. The first hour is very plodding and you wonder where it's going but the final 90 minutes are some of the best work you'll ever see. Every one of the 24 main characters nails their performance, making this an actor's movie, but the best work comes from Lily Tomlin (Linea) and Ronee Blakley (Barbara Jean).
Bottom line: a spot-on satire of celebrity full of some of the most unhappy characters you'll ever see on film.
