Review of Nashville (1975) by Joseph S — 07 Sep 2008
Nashville is 30 characters in search of a plot; it is also a meditation on human beings search for meaning. The range of personal drama, kaleidoscopic in scope, brilliantly captures the American psyche of the 1970's.
The movie is driven by dialogue and several mis en scenes (Geraldine Chaplin with the empty school buses, Barbara Harris with the microphone) that show dialogue can still trump special effects.
