Review of Narc (2002) by Andy N — 06 Jul 2007
"The best police movie of the year" said Total Film magazine back in 2002 when this film came out. I hate to disagree with them but while it is a great movie, it just doesn't deserve that praise.
It's a close call but I personally prefer Dark Blue. Yeah OK so I'm a Kurt Russell fan, but still, overall it was a more enjoyable film. But let's not talk about that, this is a Narc review.
Narc is an incredibly dark and brutal film and you get a definite sense of realism. Acting is first class. The relatively unknown Jason Patric makes a mark as the leading man while Ray Liotta proves a wonderful choice as veteran, slightly off-the-fringe cop Henry Oak, and provides the picture with some nice star power.
Although I feel that the film was maybe a touch too short, the story is intriguing and the ending twist unexpected. Overall an incredibly well made cop drama.
