Review of Narc (2002) by Eric V — 20 Feb 2012
Narc is smoking with brilliant performances and strong direction. Joe Carnahan succeeds in telling a cliche good cop/bad cop drama with confidence and faith in his material and his actors. What should be cliche is actually amazingly engaging and at times almost heart-breaking.
Gritty from beginning to end, this film never lets up and feels like the aftermath of getting shot with a 12 gauge shotgun at point blank - it leaves you hurt and breathless. Ray Liotta definitely got overlooked for a nomination for his raging but beautifully subtle performance of a good cop with a mobster edge.
When the smoke is clear and the truth is revealed, the only thing we can do is watch and be amazed...
