Review of Nanking (2007) by Isaac C — 02 Dec 2007
I think that this documentary tries too hard to be emotional and stir up feelings when quiet interviews of actual survivors would be much better. I did not like the actors very much and it did not help that they were such an emphasis for so much of the film (I know they were in the book, but I did not like the actors as I think it cheapens the actual people when it's not a movie).
Survivor accounts were incredible. It is still worth the watch for a short version of information, but I prefer the book over the documentary as the book captures much more of the history.
