Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by John W — 16 Aug 2011
This movie has a great and real potential and chance to go over your head. But if only you could realize the symbols and metaphors used int this movie and can understand the hallucinating world of William S. Burroughs' at the time of wring his most famous novel " Naked Lunch''..then it would definitely took u to a new type of experience and trip to an unknown world of a write, the terrible phase and process he goes through while writing a book.
I know to except a creation like this, from the most famous novelist from the Beat generation would not be easy.. extreme use of drugs, sexual metaphors and other stuffs, but creativity knows no limits . You don't know what does in which condition do which way... But writing a novel would definitely take the toughest test you ever appeared, it least it seemed so !
Naked Lunch is a very complicated sand complex novel. It is severely layered . actually 6 layered and almost impossible to adapt something from it. But somehow Cronenbarg managed to adapt it in the form of writer he himself is the Central character. A masterpiece, if only u could understand it. Otherwise, don't even try to see it, it will make u feel disgust and you might loss your apatite !
