Review of Naked Lunch (1991) by Matt K — 31 Dec 2008
Although not a literal adaptation of the Burroughs novel it was still quite a feat to bring some of these scenes to the screen. The scene where all the aliens are strung up in the huge barn while the addicts slurp the jizz like drug from the aliens head tentacles was so visually stunning, I actually paused it ran upstairs to get my roomate to show him.
He laughed hysterically and commented on how he was glad my other roomate wasn't arround because I already disturbed him enough by showing him Holy Mountain ... It also does a great job at making the transition from the interzone where he's got this alternate constructed reality, and then waking up in the real world where his friends find him with a bag full of drugs sleeping on a beach half burried in sand.
Cronenberg does a great job at bringing some of the most disturbing visuals to the screen in such a compelling fashion. This is a really great film.
