Review of Mystic River (2003) by Christopher S — 12 Jan 2011
One of the best films I have seen in the last 10 years. The acting in the film as a cast was superb. Sean Penn won an Academy Award for his role as Jimmy and Tim Robbins won an Academy Award for his role as Dave but it was Marcia Gay Harden as Celeste and Laurence Fishburne as Whitey Powers who stole every scene.
It was also the first time I saw a young Emmy Rossum as Jimmy's daughter. This film was one of the first ones I could remember that was set in Boston after Good Will Hunting and definitely ranks up there as one of the Boston-based films like the Departed and the Town.
The directing by Clint Eastwood was very good and this film deserved more consideration for Best Picture than the Return of the King.
