Review of Mystic River (2003) by Petri T — 23 Jul 2011
Dreadfully obvious and ineptly directed. Eastwood handles his cast well enough, Penn and Bacon are particularly convincing, but the child actors are distractingly bad, which destroys the illusions of the rushed, laughably overblown, utterly un-engaging early scenes, that in retrospect, surely pave the way for a predictable tale of crime and vigilantism, that pales into insignificance compared with the towering achievements of thematically similar efforts from HBO and Showtime and just looks embarrassingly cliched and Oscar hungry.
Huge disappointment.
