Review of Mystery Train (1989) by Boras K — 19 Jan 2010
This is a wonderfull masterpiece of three stories that involve different sets of people and are set in a cheap hotel in Memphis... The stories are well written and the whole film's direction's pretty marvelous too, with the abandoned city parking lots and empty spaces providing a decadent background that sets the film's atmosphere.
The biggest surprises come from the performance of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, a musician, that adds some comic relief withoutbeing stereotypical and cliched as the Hotel receptionist and from the Japanese actors who boost the film into a very strong opening.
.. Overall a must see movie... 5/5.
