Review of Mystery Road (2013) by Ross H — 26 Jan 2014
An interesting film set in an outback Australian town where the aboriginal community are intwined with drug dealing gangs and the lures of prostitution. The plot is unconvincing in parts and the depiction of aboriginal society is less than authentic, but the acting is reasonable with good peformances by the leads and a memorable cameo from Jack Thompson.
It captures the tensions of a small town dealing with the cultural divide between white and aboriginal and also the moral complexities when dealing with drugs. The shoot out at the end is thrilling.
