Review of Mystery Men (1999) by Brant M — 16 Jan 2009
Brilliantly absurd. The cast was supremely entertaining. I mean, William Macy?! As the Shoveler? Wow, so crazy. Geoffrey Rush, so good. And Greg Kinnear's limo ride at the beginning? I watched several times over. I could keep going, but every new absurdity was a welcome surprise and a belly laugh.
Movie loses a little steam with our first, over-the-top gore moment (might I add the film showcases some obviously fake but still disgusting gore effects that I didn't find particularly necessary), but quickly picks up for the finale.
It's been a long time since I've laughed this much at a movie.
