Review of Mystery Men (1999) by Sam F — 16 Jan 2013

Honestly one of my favorite action comedies of all time. Its one of those movies that you watch like a billion times, and quote all the lines with your friends. Mystery Men is a story of a group of friends who have the passion to fight crime but just aren't as good as the famous, powerful, and handsome Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear) who literally has put every villain in prison.

Since the city is free from most super villains, Captain Amazing as his secret identity (Lance) thinks its a good idea to try and free his arch nemesis Casanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush). As you can already tell, this isn't going to end well.

Once Captain Amazing has disappeared from Champion City, the group of unlikely friends have to team up and form a group (led by a man who can cut guns in half with his mind) to save him. The characters are simply unforgettable.

The cast is totally fantastic which provides a great laugh. Mystery Men is and always will be one of my favorite movies of all time and I recommend it to anyone who has ever dreamed of fighting crime, even though all you have is a shovel, some forks, anger issues, smelly gas, and a bowling ball.
