Review of Mystery Men (1999) by Julian T — 15 Dec 2011
This movie was about 5 years ahead of its time. If this were released today, it would be an instant hit. Full of recognizable faces like Stiller, Azaria, Macy, Reubens, Garofalo, Kinnear, Rusch, etc and a totally quirky plot, this is a superhero movie parody that actually brings something to the table.
Well constructed in its strange fantasy world, it actually echoes a little bit of the classic 'Watchmen' graphic novel. The best part of the movie is that all the actors take their silly roles very seriously (and often over-seriously), adding to the tongue in cheek quality of the film. Kel Mitchell as the Invisible Boy is a particularly funny highlight.
