Review of Mysterious Skin (2005) by T C — 04 Jul 2008
Another wickedly subversive film from the always challenging Gregg Araki. The subject matter may be off-putting for some, but it's handled in an oddly tasteful (if that's the right word... I'm not sure) way; never feeling exploitative, never judging the damaged characters.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives yet another great performance, but the best acting in the film is probably done by Brady Corbet. The underrated and under used Mary Lynn Rajskub is also very good.
Too bad Gregg Araki has been reduced to making lame drug comedies...
