Review of Mysterious Skin (2005) by Dave M — 07 Jun 2009
Based on the novel by the same name (which I haven't yet read), Mysterious Skin relatively unspoken about subject matter and manages to handle it with a certain level of sensetivity but never sugarcoats it to make audiences feel like they were cheated.
Most surprising about the film was the preformances by the main leades. Both did a full on preformance with their respective characters. Joseph Gordon Lewitt in particular does full justice to his character Neil and never makes us question him in any scene whatsoever.
Mysterious Skin deals with a dark subject and its not a film for everyone. But if you want a engrossing mystery-drama that never lets go, do watch this movie.
