Review of Mysterious Skin (2005) by Lee B — 18 Apr 2011
This is my introduction to Araki's filmography, and it couldn't have been a better one. I've seen several films that deal with themes like homosexuality and sexual abuse, but never anything like Mysterious Skin.
It's miraculously well structured and beautiful performed by it's two male leads; Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet. When you watch a film with those themes mentioned, you go in expecting to feel disgusted and terrible, but it's done so subtly that it just seems like a part of any story.
Surely, one of the most emotionally trembling films I've seen in a very long time. Amazing.
