Review of Mysterious Skin (2005) by Tommy M — 11 Jan 2012
This movie is written and directed on one of the most taboo subjects. Which happen to be Child Molestation, and a lot of Gay Sex, With a lot of skin even though I saw no nudity, which gives a lot of people a very awkward feeling and then you think why am I watching this? I know I did.
But it's actually got an interesting story even though it's very taboo and hard to watch at times. But what this story is really about are two men who at the age of 8 got molested and how they were both effected because of it.
One thought that it was amazing and it was the best thing that ever happend to him and the other chose to forget it completely even though it effected him severely. So the two differnt characters emerge one being a very confident young man in his sextuallity but is broken on the inside, while the other is very shy and softspoken and keeps a dream diary so he can try and rememember what happend.
Throughout the story Joseph Gordon-Levitt sleeps with numerious men in order to get money and to try and find himself, while the other is trying to find out what happend to him and why he blocked it out of his memory even though he keeps having reaccuring dreams.
He starts looking into it and remembers in a dream someone was there with him and that is when he stumbles upon Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character in which he tries to meet. By the end of the story they finally meet and he discovers what really happend that night.
The acting in this movie is awesome Joseph Gordon-Levitt does an awesome job as usual even though it was a risky roll he pulled it off un scathed, as do all the other actors/actresses in this movie.
