The film belongs to Michelle Williams who, far removed from her days on Dawson's Creek, glows as a leading lady. She captures the essence of the gorgeous, tortured, conflicted, fleeting and neurotic star as well as any actress ever has.
While the film itself underwhelms, Williams' magnanimous performance merited the Oscar attention it received.
