Review of My Week with Marilyn (2011) by Amateurfilmvwr — 29 Sep 2022
"My Week with Marilyn" is a much easier watch than Netflix's "Blonde." The film is mostly about Colin Clark, an aspiring filmmaker who talked his way into being Monroe's escort around London in 1957 whilst she was in town filming "The Prince and the Showgirl.".
Michelle Williams is utterly adorable as the icon that is Marilyn Monroe. Williams is so flawless in finding ways to capture the doubts and vulnerability of Norma Jean while she struggles with pressures of the "Icon" and "Sex Symbol" that was in front of the cameras for all to see.
Eddie Redmayne plays the role of Clark well as he is portrayed from the perspective of an average person trying to remain grounded and respectful while also being swept up in the orbit of one of the industry's biggest stars at the time.
Its not as dark and demanding as "Blonde" but it gives you a brief glimpse into the life of Norma Jean with respect and grace.
