Review of My Way (2012) by Movieman . — 29 Mar 2014
"My Way" captures the true essence of of Japanese and Korean cultural hatred and conflict of the times when Japan invaded and occupied Korea. Anyone who compares it to a Hollywood film obviously has no understanding of Asian culture and History.
keep in mind as well that this story was inspired by true events, not a re-enactment of actual events. Given the degree to which these two men have traveled and the blood-shed and death they had to endure, I was very impressed with Director Kang's ability to keep the story under 2.
5 hours. War is bloody, more so then any movie can recreate. Because there are just some things that we cannot comprehend, despite the evil and cruelty humans possess when driven to the brink of insanity.
Kang has demonstrated and captured these aspects of human beings during war time. The story is touching, graphic, violent and I think Kang has entered into a new type of filming with the up close and personal to capture a more personal experience of what war time would be like.
Very interesting strategy considering the epic battle scenes. Finally, if your going to comment on an Asian film, learn about Asian culture. From what I see below, simply ignorant people who have no idea about Asian culture and history and how brutal the conflicts were back then.
