Review of My Summer of Love (2005) by A M — 21 Jan 2009
Oddly enough, this movie ends up playing out in the vein of a thriller, where the stakes are life and happiness. It's impeccably acted, to be sure, with wonderful, unfolding performances from the two leads, but also another great turn from Paddy Considine, who takes a cardboard cutout villain and turns him into a force of nature.
The photography employs a lot of earthy light, especially in the forest scenes, where Pawlikoswki and the DP are able to create a fantasy world in the real world using only natural surroundings. I also rather enjoyed the obvious lesbian imagery, like Emily Blunt's entrance on the horse or their shared moments in front of a mirror.
