Review of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2010) by Brett A — 10 Apr 2010
Very minor Herzog. Among the many problems I had with it is that the HD looked ugly and didn't really benefit Herzog's aggressively non-naturalistic direction and anti-humanist disavowal of character psychology.
The look of the film, in other words, renders Herzog's peculiar ideas about myth, fate, nature, and madness banal rather than inspirational. Everything comes off as mannered, like it was a parody of a Herzog film.
