Review of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2010) by Aidan H — 16 Feb 2011
Despite Herzog's credit, this feel's more like one of presenter David Lynch's movies than what we've come to expect from the German. The unreasonably long takes, stifled dialogue and the usual collection of weird old ladies and dwarves are trotted out in an imitation of the Texan eccentric but to little effect.
Despite an impressive cast and true story, the unwieldy and obtrusive music blocks any attempt at atmosphere and the movie's one saving grace is the riveting performance from Shannon as the depressed killer.
Pointless and shallow exercise in weirdness. For Lynch completists only.
