Personally, I cried throughout most of this movie, both when I saw it at the cinema and when I recently watched it at home. The subject matter is indeed horrific, but there is an underlying optimism to the family's story throughout.
Cameron Diaz gives a fantastic performance, as do Abigail Breslin and Sofia Vassilieva, while Joan Cusack also impresses, despite her limited screentime.
