Review of My Own Private Idaho (1991) by Brandon D — 18 Jan 2009
The unique and incredibly gifted young River Phoenix gives an extraordinary performance in this stunningly original art-house film from visionary director Gus Van Sant. My Own Private Idaho is a powerful, beautiful, and deeply emotional journey.
The script is clever and smart, the acting is phenomenal, and the direction is flawless. Keanu Reeves gives one of his most convincing performances of his career, and he hasnt given many that were entirely memorable.
Phoenix and Reeves have interesting chemistry with one another and the films impact is very strong. The story is well structered and the performances really carry the film quite well. My Own Private Idaho is a film that achieves perfection in nearly every way imaginable.
A landmark in the history of cinema. My Own Private Idaho is one of the greatest films ever made and a true masterwork. A classic. Genius filmmaking...
